Safety Induction Video Case Study

The Brief

Commercial contractor 8build approached Front Foot Creative for the production of a company-wide health & safety induction video, ahead of the launch of a new app to streamline their health & safety obligations for contractors and site visitors.

The main aim of the induction video was to convey the safety rules and standards universally applicable to every 8Build project.

Crucially, 8build’s health and safety team recognised that the many contractors and tradespeople they work with, may regularly undertake site inductions. As a result, they were looking for a creative spin that could capture the attention. A dream scenario for Front Foot’s creative team!

Concept

“Safety Matters – Your family is expecting you home” – a motto used by 8build, to encapsulate their key motivation to creating healthy and safe working environments.

The Front Foot Creative team delivered a concept that would immediately put family at the forefront of the viewer’s mind, whilst also breaking from convention for a traditional induction video.

Out with “Mr adult presenter”, interrupted by our child presenter to deliver the message on why every dad, mum, grandparent and relative stepping on site should play their role in ensuring everyone returns home safely to their family at the end of the working day.

Production

Following concept sign off with the client, Front Foot Creative went about producing a full script and storyboard.

Production commenced with a three-day shoot at an 8build project in central London. Two shoot days took place initially to capture the important b-roll and re-enactment filming of each key safety message featured in the induction. This included important themes such as PPE, working at height, Access/Egress, Site Safety and Tools & Equipment. A final shoot captured the child presenter and adult presenter’s delivery on site.

2D branded motion graphics and subtitles were added during post-production to give the final deliverable a polished finish bespoke to 8Build.

From concepting through to final edit delivery, the project took approximately two months and was delivered well ahead of 8Build’s schedule app launch.
