RWE Health & Safety Induction Video Case Study

RWE

The Brief

We were tasked to produce a series of health and safety based site specific induction videos, across various sites from RWE Generation’s network of UK-based power stations. These included a range of edits scaling from full site wide inductions to more specific features on safe working in Gas Control Areas and Switchrooms.

Staythorpe and Kings Lynn Power Stations have a vast number of contractors and visitors to site each year. Ensuring they are aware of the hazards and rules on site is vital in keeping every one safe.

The Results

  • Standardised inductions across 4 stations (Staythorpe, Kings Lynn, Little Barford and Didcot B)
  • 1,630+ visitors inducted to date (750 Staythorpe, 880 Kings Lynn; ongoing)
  • Operational uplist: clearer comms for Gas Control Areas and Switchrooms; dynamic gimbal sequences replaced legacy tripod films
  • Efficiency: pre-arrival viewing reduced briefing time, allowed on-site brieifng to be more task-specific, better audit readiness

Production

The client were highly technically focused given the nature of their day job. So it was key we were across the relevant information and able to filter the important details, in order to create visual sequences and re-enactments that accurately represented the appropriate health and safety protocols.

No professional actors were used during production on any of the projects with RWE. So in each case, clear and concise directing of on screen talent was required for RWE staff to illustrate the actions we required.

The inductions ranged from 8 mins to 20 minutes with a vast amount of footage needed. Extensive pre-production ensured we planned efficient shoot schedules, and good organisation was required on shoot to remain on track across the multi-shoot day production.

The use of a gimbal ensured the camera movements were more dynamic and a more visually engaging watch. This ensured we achieved our brief stylistically, improving on out-of-date existing induction videos that RWE’s sites had been using for years prior, which had been filmed using a tripod.

Deliverables

Gas Control Area and Switchroom induction videos for both Little Barford and Didcot B power stations. Whilst Staythorpe Power Station and Kings Lynn Power Station required an updated, slicker and more effective site induction video to be shown to all visitors and contractors prior to arrival on site.

The Numbers

Since streamlining their induction process with Front Foot Creative with an up to date site-specific induction, Staythorpe Power Station have used the video wfor over 750 visitors

Whilst more than 880 visitors to site have watched the induction at Kings Lynn Power Station, who used the blueprint of the production from Staythorpe to convert their induction into a more efficent process with Front Foot Creative.
